ABOUT ME
I’m Alex. I was born to do family history. It’s a curiosity turned passion turned profession. I grew up as a loud, outgoing person who got quiet at family gatherings because I loved listening to family stories old and new. In my early twenties I started researching names and dates to go with the stories I’d heard all my life. I started getting to know people who died long before I was born.
As my family tree grew, so did my desire to share this hobby. Then it became more than a hobby. I started working in the genealogy industry and I went back to school to study genealogy. But I quickly realized that researching other people’s families didn’t satisfy me. I could do it well and I could make money at it. But ultimately, I want to help other people learn to research their own families. I want to give other people the tools to have the deeply meaningful experiences with their own genealogies that I’ve cherished with mine.
I started working on my own family history in 2011 and began volunteering in local family history centers in 2014. I've worked professionally in the genealogy industry since 2015, helping people learn to use genealogy websites and DNA testing for family history, with additional years of experience in genealogical record publishing. I also have a bachelor's degree in family history research. I have the skills and experience to conduct research on a professional level, but I would much rather share my knowledge and experience to help others learn to do for themselves. After all, "If you give a man a fish..."
